Fun in Sun: Safety Tips for Summer

Summer is right around the corner and that means spending lots of time in the great outdoors! While sunny days bring about lots of smiles it can be easy to forget about the potential dangers of a bright and beating sun and the rising temperatures. As you’re planning lots of beach trips, spending time at the park, or simply running around and having fun in the backyard, keep these tips in mind to ensure that your child is safe and happy all summer long:

Sunscreen, sunscreen, and more sunscreen: Sunscreen is a no-brainer, but it can be so easy to overlook! During the summer months, consider keeping a bottle always out on a high top counter so that it’s never out of sight and easy to forget. Slather SPF 30 sunscreen on your child a half an hour before heading outside and reapply as needed. Don’t forget about the tops of the feet and the tops of little ears!

Hats, galore: We don’t typically apply sunscreen to our head or hairline, making our scalps especially susceptible to the sun. Keep your little one comfortable and sunburn-free all summer long by having them wear a hat on those especially sunny days. They’ll protect their head and shield their eyes from the sun.

Cool, covered eyes: Little guys and girls look adorable in sunglasses, and they do so much to protect their eyes! Purchasing sunglasses for your child will allow them to have fun and squint-free. Most importantly, they will help to protect their delicate eyes from the bright UV rays of the sun.

  1. Or, stay indoors: On those especially hot days, it may be wise to simply stay indoors. High, high temperatures can quickly lead to dehydration or overheating. Avoid these dangers by playing in the cool temperatures of the indoors! Indoor playsets for toddlers are a great way to stay cool and have fun, all from the comfort of your home.
